Frequently Asked Questions
-
What to expect? It’s normal and expected for you to have feelings of nervousness or apprehension when coming to therapy, whether it is for your first session or if you have been to therapy before. However, expect to be welcomed into a safe environment where you can reflect on your life in the presence of someone who is interested in you, your thoughts, feelings, perspectives and your life’s concerns, and who is trained to support your forward movement. The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each another. You’ll be able to ask questions about how I can best support you and get a feel for what therapy will be like. It is important that you are comfortable with my approach and that it is suited to your needs. For therapy to be successful, it is critical that you feel we are well-matched to work together.
-
How long will it take?Sessions are usually for one hour but can also be for 90 minutes or 2 hours. The length, frequency and duration of sessions depends largely on the work at hand. Factors that influence the number of sessions required include your personal history, your presenting issues, available supports outside of your sessions, and the degree of change desired and possible at this time. Therapy with me doesn't need to be forever. You set the pace. I am always happy to see you on your terms - whether that be a little or a lot.

What's the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?Counselling is usually for a particular issue or issues. Psychotherapy is deeper and works with the internal wounds, blocks and motivations in a person. Psychotherapy, I feel, is more of a soul pursuit. Is therapy confidential?Yes. All information you share with me is confidential. I am also vigilant to maintain confidentiality at all times during recording, storage, dissemination and disposal of any information I have about you. The only exceptions to confidentiality are if you are at risk of harm to yourself or someone else, or if there is any legal requirement to disclose information about you. For example, if I am legally subpoenaed to provide the release of your records. These situations are very rare, however, if either of these situations become relevant, I will always make every reasonable effort to speak with you before taking any action. Also, in the event that I run into you outside of the clinic environment, I will not acknowledge you in order to maintain your privacy. However, if you see me and greet me, I am happy to reciprocate. You are welcome to share with your family and friends that I am your therapist, but it needs to come from you, not me. Therefore, please do not be offended if you see me and I do not acknowledge you. I work from my home office so the setting is private and discrete.

Do you accept Mental Health Care Plans (MHCP’s)?No. Unfortunately, psychotherapists and counsellors are not eligible for Medicare rebates, so I don't take Mental Health Care Plans from your GP.
-
Do I need a referral to work with you?No. You don't need a GP referral and you can make a booking simply by contacting me.

What is the process of booking an appointment? You can make contact with me via phone or text message on 0432 273 853 or by sending me an email via the Contact Form below. If you contact me by phone, I may be with a client or unavailable, so please leave a message. Whichever way you contact me, I will be in touch as soon as possible.
